Community Cook Up – Volunteer Advocates

Community Cook Up is recruiting volunteers to join a new team of Volunteer Advocates.

The VA Project is to complement existing community work at the Antwerp Arms and by Community Cook Up. It runs on Tuesdays between 11 and 12.30 before the Community Meal at the Antwerp and on Thursdays 2.30-4pm, after the Community Cook Up event in Northumberland Park.

These sessions provide a friendly, person centred, and non-judgemental service for members of our community who would like support to access more services in the Borough, particularly in relation to housing, debt, benefits, developing their CVs and job search help, as well as health and family related issues. Volunteers will offer guidance in using the internet, such as support to set up and use an email address, and to maintain their benefits by using the DWP website. They may be asked by guests to help them make a telephone call, or to write or read a letter. They may be asked to help the guest to approach their landlord or the council about a problem.

Training is taking place on Monday, 20 May 2019, from 1pm – 4pm in North Tottenham.
