About Us

The Bridge Renewal Trust is a charity based in Tottenham. We were set up in 2009 as a successor body to the Bridge New Deal for Communities (NDC) that led regeneration in Tottenham from 2000 – 2010. Our main purpose is to deliver practical ways that people can live healthier lives – thus playing our part in working towards reducing health inequalities. Our approach includes:

  • Supporting people holistically to have the confidence, motivation, skills and knowledge to make their own healthy life choices – and to be able to pass this on in their families and in the community.
  • Ensuring people can access the right mix for them of the medical and healthy living support to get and stay well.
  • Building sustainability into all our work by operating as a social business. This means adopting the strengths of operating as a sustainable business and adapting these to ensure that ultimately the ‘profits’ are the social benefit of meeting our charitable purpose.
  • Working collaboratively and in partnerships to increase the availability of accessible services and support that will enhance the health and wellbeing of local people.

We are based in the Laurels Healthy Living Centre where we deliver whole health services that sit alongside the primary health care services that are available in the Laurels. We aim to ensure the healthy living offer at the Laurels is integrated with medical services so it truly becomes a sector leading Healthy Living Centre. The Bridge also delivers services out in the community. We manage the Chestnuts Community Centre – a vibrant and popular community centre located within Chestnuts Park and the Bridge Community Hut – a multi-purpose community centre with community gardens on Tiverton Estate.

Business Plan

Between 2009 and 2015, we implemented our first 5 year Business Plan and have established ourselves as an important contributor to the health and wellbeing of the local community through the following programmes:

Whole health services: we provided affordable complementary therapies including foot care plus social prescribing service (toe nail cutting, foot massage and links to social activities), Podiatry, Homeopathy, Osteopathy, Deep Tissue Massage, Reflexology, Acupuncture and Aromatherapy – over 1200 clients served annually.

Community empowerment: Key achievements and social impact included:

  • Over 5000 people have participated in our activities focused on prevention and early help
  • Up to 60 volunteers trained and supported annually to co-deliver health and wellbeing projects as community champions. Skills gained by volunteers include personal development (confidence/self-esteem, leadership, communication and team working) and work skills (such as food hygiene, foot care and football coaching).
  • Home from hospital provided support to over 250 older people discharged from hospitals.
  • Lifestyle projects including food growing and healthy cooking, physical activities, weight management and smoking cessation.
  • Bridge to Work supported over 150 people into employment.

Community facilities: We managed and delivered services from the following three community facilities – Laurels Healthy Living Centre, Chestnuts Community Centre and Community Hut.
