The project aims to deliver foot care services to isolated elderly people that will serve as a ‘foot-in-the-door’ to involve them into the ‘social prescribing’ initiative. We aim to address the challenge of isolation and loneliness in old age by providing toe nail cutting and foot massage service to isolated elderly people in Tottenham. Along with seeing a foot care therapist, elderly people are encouraged to take time for tea and a chat with our trained volunteers who offer befriending and signposting support to local social activities.
The project involves the following activities:
- Outreach toe nail cutting service is undertaken to sheltered accommodations and clients’ homes
- Social prescribing solutions include participation social events enjoyed by the wider community in community cafes, libraries, community parks, gardens and allotments and school fairs. Other activities include healthy cooking and eating classes, walking, chair based exercises, buddying and film reviews.
- The project supports befriending and sign posting volunteers who speak ethnic minority languages and accompany foot care therapist on outreach visits to sheltered accommodations and homes.
