Home Cooked

Home Cooked

Home Cooked is a violence reduction programme funded by the Mayor’s London Violence Reduction Unit.
This is a partnership project to help tackle serious youth violence building on the successful delivery in the Tottenham Hale ward, we are now delivering the programme in Northumberland Park. We provide a range of initiatives for young people and their families such as sport provision, employment support, a future leaders programme and mental health support.

We've partnered with local youth organisation Open Door to deliver Year two of our Home Cooked Consortium in Northumberland Park.

Open Door will be providing mental health support, joining NLPC, the Godwin Lawson Foundation, and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to work together to improve the lives of young people in the area. Open Door will provide specialist assessment and therapeutic one-to-one mental health support to young people in Northumberland Park. This will include those impacted by serious youth violence.

Each young person will be offered a bespoke service tailored to their developmental needs. Their psychotherapist or psychologist will take the time to develop a trusting relationship, enabling the young person to open up and focus on empowerment. This involves recognising the barriers they face and helping them find hope.

After listening to what the young person feels their mental health needs are and conducting a comprehensive therapeutic assessment, the psychotherapist or psychologist will support the young person in co-producing their therapy plan and setting their own goals. Initial therapeutic assessment/consultation: in which the young person can explore what has brought them here and think with the therapist about what they want and need.

The offer includes:

  • Psychotherapy: brief, medium- and longer-term basis depending on need
  • Individual Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for anxiety and depression, trauma and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Mindfulness
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming - a specialist therapy for trauma and PTSD
  • Parent/carer support sessions within our wider Open Door services, which support the relationship and communication between the parent/carer and the young person and increase parental confidence.
